What is Turova?

Turova is an AI-powered security system designed for camper vans and RVs. It combines LiDAR, night-vision cameras and optional sensors, all processed on an NVIDIA Jetson computer inside your vehicle, to detect intruders and respond automatically — even with no internet connection.

Does it work without internet or cell signal?

Yes. All detection and decision-making happens on the Jetson board inside your rig, so the core system works completely offline. Push notifications and cloud backup of footage simply sync later when you regain a connection.

Are there monthly fees?

No. Turova has no required subscription. You buy the hardware once and own it. Optional cloud backup is available for a small fee, but every core feature — detection, deterrents, local recording — works for free, forever.

Will it drain my house battery?

Accepted Answer

No. In standby the system draws roughly 8–15 watts depending on configuration, which is less than a typical 12V fridge. With even modest solar it runs indefinitely. You can also set a low-power floor so it never takes your battery below a level you choose.

How does it avoid false alarms?

Turova fuses several sensors — LiDAR distance, camera vision and optional thermal — and only escalates when they agree that a human-sized object is approaching. Because a raindrop or animal rarely fools every sensor at once, false alarms are cut to near zero. You can also draw detection zones to ignore busy areas like sidewalks.

Can it tell a person from an animal?

Yes. LiDAR measures the size, shape and trajectory of objects, and the vision model is trained to distinguish people from common wildlife. A deer browsing nearby won't trigger the same response as someone approaching your door.

How far away can it detect someone?

Accepted Answer

Effective range depends on your configuration and surroundings, but the standard LiDAR and camera reliably cover the immediate perimeter of your rig — typically out to 8–12 meters. Thermal and radar add-ons extend early detection further, especially through brush.

Which computer does it run on?

Accepted Answer

Turova runs on NVIDIA Jetson edge computers. The entry configuration uses the Jetson Nano; our recommended Core configuration uses the more powerful Jetson Orin Nano, which has headroom for multiple cameras and add-ons.

Can I install it myself?

Accepted Answer

Most people can. Sensor pods mount with the supplied hardware and gaskets, and the compute unit connects to your 12V house system through a fused circuit. If you're not comfortable with basic 12V wiring, any van-life electrician can complete the install in well under an hour.

Will it fit my van or RV?

Turova is vehicle-agnostic. The sensor pods are compact and the system scales from a single entry zone on a compact van to multi-zone coverage on a large Class A motorhome. Add sensor pods as needed for full 360° awareness.

Is the hardware weatherproof?

The exterior sensor pods are sealed and weather-rated for rain, dust and the temperature swings of life on the road. The compute enclosure is fan-cooled and designed to live in a ventilated interior space.

Where does my video go?

By default, nowhere but your own vehicle. Footage is recorded to local storage on the device. Cloud backup is entirely optional and off by default — you decide whether anything leaves your rig.

Is my footage private?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Because detection runs on-device, raw video and LiDAR data never need to touch a server. If you enable optional cloud backup, footage is encrypted in transit and at rest, and only you can access it.
